Sappi Southern Africa is a leading global company in sustainable wood fibre industry. This learnership is based at Sappi Tugela Mill in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal, and also at Ngodwana Mill and Saiccor Mill. The programme is for youth who want to become qualified artisans and process operators in pulp and paper manufacturing.
Duration of Learnership
The programme duration is 12 months full-time. This is a fixed-term learnership contract. Location is Mandeni, KZN (Tugela Mill) and other Sappi mills in Mpumalanga. Learners must be willing to work shifts, including night shift and weekends. Training includes both classroom theory and practical workplace experience inside the mill. Start date is February 2027.
Stipend / Salary - How Much You Will Get
Successful learners will receive a monthly stipend of R5,500 per month plus overtime allowance. Additional benefits include free Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), free medical surveillance and safety training, free NQF Level 2-4 qualification in Process Operations or Engineering, and possible permanent employment as Process Controller or Artisan Assistant after completion. Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be South African citizen aged 18-30 years, unemployed youth
- Must have Grade 12 / Matric with minimum 50% Mathematics, 50% Physical Science, 40% English
- N3-N6 in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering will be an added advantage
- Must be medically fit to work in mill environment and pass medical fitness test
- Clear criminal record, good communication and teamwork skills
- Must not be currently studying full-time and must be from local community or willing to relocate to Mandeni
